Lisa Joy Schwenker (nee Sachs), age 61, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2020.
Lisa was born in Philadelpha, PA to Perry Sachs and Jytte Jorgensen. During her childhood, she lived in New York, England, Denmark and Pennsylvania, eventually settling in Connecticut. Lisa married John Schwenker of Connecticut on May 6, 2000; and they spent many happy years in Rocky Hill, CT, Chicago, IL and Providence, RI.
Lisa had a long and successful career in the Health Insurance industry, working for many years at Aetna in Hartford and Blue Cross Blue Shield in Chicago as a Business Analyst and Project Manager. Lisa’s side interests also included founding and operating a pet sitting business called Critter Sitters, and creating, writing and photographing for a local musicians’ newsletter in Connecticut, the Frogbelly Local.
Lisa’s love of animals started early in life. She especially loved horses, enjoying horseback riding and grooming horses during her childhood in Denmark. She had a big heart and loved caring for every kind of animal. Over the years she owned and loved countless rescue cats. She was a talented photographer and had a keen eye. She enjoyed traveling all over the country and the world with her family and with John, and captured those moments in her beautifully artistic photos. Lisa was also an amazing and adventurous cook, and enjoyed carrying on the traditions of her Danish heritage through celebrations of food.
She was preceded in death by her mother Jytte and her husband John. She is survived by her father Perry Sachs and his wife Rita of Philadelphia, her sister Jennifer Jardim and her husband Harry Hamilton of Madison NJ, nephew Henrik Hamilton, niece Amalia Hamilton, her sister Malene Robb and her husband Ed Robb of North Berwick, ME.
Private services for Lisa will be held later this spring.
If desired, donations can be made in her name to Lisa’s favorite charity; the Animal Welfare Society.
